A brush fire blackened swaths of open terrain at Camp Pendleton Monday.

The blaze began spreading across a central training ground known as Zulu Impact Area at the military station near Oceanside in the late afternoon.

No structural threats were reported.

It was not immediately clear what sparked the blaze.
