SAN DIEGO – San Diego Fire-Rescue crews extinguished a small brush fire that broke out along the State Route 94 freeway near the East Village.
The fire broke out before 2:45 a.m. on SR-94, near its interchange with Interstate 5. A truck driver stopped and attempted to extinguish the flames with buckets. When that failed, San Diego police officers tried to put out the fire with an extinguisher. That was also unsuccessful.
Eventually San Diego Fire-Rescue crews responded and contained the fire within a few minutes. California Highway Patrol shut down the onramp from I-5 south to SR-94 east for about 15 minutes during the incident. There were no injuries.
It was not immediately clear what started the fire.
