A mysterious bright light was spotted streaking across the Southern California sky Wednesday night, and people on social media went crazy.
Some San Diegans reported seeing the bright light. There were also reported sightings in Nevada and Utah.
The director of the Griffith Observatory, Dr. Ed Krupp, told ABC7 in Los Angeles that the Delta Aquarids Meteor Shower was set to peak Wednesday evening. He also said it is possible it was the Perseid Meteor Shower which is supposed to peak in mid-August.
People posted videos and pictures on Twitter of the meteor shower.

The National Weather Service Salt Lake City tweeted that the bright light was not a meteor, but a piece of "space junk".
Correction, the object in question was not a meteor but rather a piece of "space junk." https://t.co/iJkQtddAG6
