Bomb threat prompts Navy pier evacuation

Yet another in a continuing series of bomb threats prompted the evacuation of Pier 7 on Naval Base San Diego Tuesday afternoon.

Navy Spokesman Brian O’Rourke says the words "Boom at the pier." was found on the wall of a portable outhouse on the USS Essex. The pier was evacuated, however, Essex crew members were allowed to remain on the ship.

an all-clear was issued around 1:40 p.m.

around 12:15there was another bomb threat at Naval Base San Diego this afternoon.  Someone found a note written on a wall of a Porta Potty on the U.S.S Essex.  The note said, “Boom at the Pier.”

The threat is the 18th one the Navy has received since Nov. 17 -- all of them causing work stoppages to maintenance and repair work on US Navy ships.
