SAN DIEGO -- A fire damaged a medical marijuana dispensary in Normal Heights early Thursday morning.

At around 1 a.m., San Diego Fire-Rescue crews responded to what they thought was a house fire at the corner of 40th Street and Meade Avenue. They arrived to find smoke pouring out the front windows. When they entered what the structure, they found a medical marijuana dispensary inside.

The fire burned the front door, destroyed a fridge and caused smoke damage to the rest of the business before crews knocked it down. No one was inside when the fire started and there were no injuries.

A SDFR battalion chief at the scene told 10News says the fire was started by an electrical issue in the fridge. The fridge was labeled “ice stoned goods” and held what appeared to be weed-infused snacks.

San Diego police are investigating. It was not immediately clear if the dispensary was licensed.
