Big rig smashes through guardrail, teeters over edge

Posted
SAN DIEGO – A semi-truck dangled over the edge of a freeway onramp after crashing through a guardrail in the Mount Hope area of San Diego early Tuesday morning.

A little before 1:30 a.m., the semi-truck was taking the connector ramp from State Route 94 to Interstate 15 south when the driver lost control and crashed through the guardrail. The truck was left hanging over the side with its rear wheels up in the air.

The driver was not hurt and no other vehicles were involved in the crash. He told 10News the crash occurred because he took the ramp a little too fast. It took Caltrans crews about three hours to clear the scene and ensure there were no gas or oil spills.

The truck’s trailer was empty. The driver said he was simply transporting the empty semi from San Diego to Los Angeles.

California Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate.
