SAN DIEGO -- A tractor-trailer hauling oranges crashed on a freeway transition in the Torrey Pines area early Tuesday morning, shutting down a major transition ramp for more than five hours.

According to California Highway Patrol's incident information page, the semi-truck hit a guardrail on the bypass ramp from southbound Interstate 5 to Carmel Valley Road and state Route 56 east around 2:45 a.m. It was not immediately clear whether the trucker was injured.

Crews responded and transferred thousands of pounds of oranges to a second truck. The bypass ramp was closed until a little after 8 a.m. so crews could repair the damaged guardrail and clear the truck and debris.

The exact cause of the crash was not confirmed.
