EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) - A baby was thrown across a bedroom but escaped serious injury after a car crashed into an El Cajon home.

The crash happened at about 11 p.m. Thursday at a home in the 500 block of Emerald Avenue, according to police.

Police said a woman somehow lost control of her car and crashed into a gate at the Camelot Apartments before slamming into an apartment unit.

The crash caused a baby sleeping on a bed to be thrown across the room, but emergency crews said the baby was OK and likely did not notice what happened.

Maricela Lopez, the child's mother, told 10News, "I've always thought about an incident like this, that a car would just slam into the wall … and he's as far away as possible, and now it happened."

The driver was taken to the hospital with unspecified injuries. Witnesses said police asked her about possible medications.

It remains unclear if the woman will face charges related to the crash.

"I'm glad that the gate is here. Mostly thanks to the gate that the baby is fine," one resident said.
