Ananya Vinay wins 2017 Scripps National Spelling Bee

WASHINGTON, D.C. (KGTV) -- Ananya Vinay was crowned the winner of the 2017 Scripps National Spelling Bee Thursday night. 

The 12-year-old is a sixth-grade student from Fresno, Calif. She won after spelling the word "Marocain."

MAROCAIN:  a dress fabric of ribbed crepe, made of silk or wool or both.

Vinay has won the state spelling bee three times.
