An alert that went out Monday morning to Camp Pendleton personnel about an "active shooter" situation on the North County military station turned out to be a false alarm, officials said.

The emergency advisory was transmitted via a government computer system, said Cpl. Shaltiel Dominguez, a base spokesman.

Dominguez said he did not know how long the notification was out before it was rescinded, or whether it resulted in any increased security measures.

"We don't have that information," Dominguez said.

It was unclear how the mistake occurred.
