Seventy-five Chula Vista motorists were cited by police for texting or talking on a cell phone while driving Friday night during a five-hour distracted driving operation.
Chula Vista police fanned out across the city from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., pulling over 85 vehicles in the process, according to Officer Brian Carter.
Of the 75 citations, 47 were for talking on the phone, while 28 were for texting while driving. Five drivers were cited for driving without a license or on a suspended license and three vehicles were impounded, Carter said.
It was the fifth of six operations scheduled in April focused on distracted drivers in Chula Vista and it was considered a success, according to Carter.
