Four Miramar-area restaurants got off to a rough start this week, as thieves smashed their windows and tossed their shelves as they looked for money to steal.
"I feel sad, you know. I was thinking all the way up here, 'What's missing? What's broken?'" said Khan Baba Kabab Shop owner Saeed Khalil.
Khalil said San Diego police suggested he leave his cash drawer empty every night and on display so that thieves looking through the window can see the empty slots.
"When they see this drawer is empty, they know there is no cash," said Khalil.
The owner of D'Sotos said thieves took roughly $2,000.
A San Diego police spokesman said he expected investigators to finish compiling all that was stolen by Tuesday.
