SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — At Formula Skin Lab San Diego, owner Stephanie J says she's mastered the art of "pivoting."

When she decided to open last summer she knew it would be difficult, but never anticipated it would be this challenging. Now that they're fully back open, she's looking forward to a hopefully busy month.

"We could definitely use that boost. We were closed almost 6 months out of last year," she says.

It's the same thing a group called Black San Diego is hoping for as well. They're asking people to shop local, Black-owned business during Black History Month.

The organization says Black businesses have been hit especially hard during the pandemic.

"Forty-one percent of Black-owned businesses have had to close their doors, that's just nationally. Here in San Diego, there have been businesses that have had to shut their doors and probably wont be able to open back up," explained Black San Diego founder Sheri Jones.

The website has a full directory of businesses and the Facebook page has information about different events. You can check it out at ourbsd.com and Formula Skin Lab SD at stephjstyles.com.
