SANTEE, Calif. (KGTV) -- A water main break flooded streets Tuesday, stopping traffic on Fanita Drive and Mission Gorge Road.

The Sheriff's Department tells 10News the break happened around 5:40 p.m. Initially no one knew where the water was coming from.

The water main break is a 16” recycled water pipeline, according to Padre Dam Municipal Water District officials.

As of 8 p.m., the water was gone and lanes of MIssion Gorge Road were reopened. Padre Dam Municipal Water District officials tell 10News the incident buckled the road and repairs are necessary. Crews will work overnight and into the morning if necessary.

240 recycled water customers are affected. The district points out that recycled water is used for irrigation throughout the community. It is not drinking water.
