POWAY, Calif. – A water main break sent water gushing into the parking lot of a Poway business complex and created concerns that a sinkhole could develop early Monday morning.

The break occurred around midnight Sunday at a complex just north of Poway and Midland roads. An employee working in one of the businesses noticed a puddle developing inside a kitchen and called 911.

"I mean, it happens when it rains once in a while, it'll kind of flood,” employee Freddy Green told 10News. “So we thought, it didn't rain that much, we kind of investigated, and found all the water pouring out like crazy."

The Poway Fire Department responded, along with city crews, and shut off the water valve, but not before the break left a muddy mess in the parking lot.

The cause of the break and the extent of the damage were not immediately confirmed.
