A thief goes on a rampage in Carlsbad, leaving behind a trail of broken glass and missing car windows. Just before 4 in the morning, on Estrella De Mar Court, a loud noise jolted neighbors out of bed.

“We heard alarms going off, so my girlfriend and I got up to take a look.  When we turned on the light, I think it caused a scare,” said Chris Barrett.

Barrett saw a shadowy figure inside a neighbor's car, and then a dark SUV went speeding down the road. When Barrett checked out his truck, his heart sank.

“I walked up and immediately saw no glass left, just hanging there.  I peered inside the truck and nothing. Everything was gone,” said Barrett.

For Barrett, a carpenter, the tools of his trade - more than a $1,000 worth had vanished.  His tinted windows didn't hide the bounty.

“Sad, scared and pissed.  Very worried about today and next days for work.  I only make enough to pay the bills and I’ve had some of these tools for more than 20 years,” said Barrett.

Barrett wasn’t the only victim. Not far from his truck, he saw the car he saw the man rummaging through. Barrett found a two windows shattered.

From that car thieves grabbed an overnight bag and clothes. A few feet away, the thief opened unlocked BMV door and cleaned the SUV out. Barrett and his girlfriend called police, then called on social media, posting details, in hopes of tips.

“I would love to get my tools back.  That would be the best thing to happen,” said Barrett.

Barrett says the SUV may have been a Nissan pathfinder but isn't sure. If you have any information on the case, call Carlsbad Police.
