SAN DIEGO -- A University Heights woman recorded video of a man stealing donations for local veterans from outside her home this week.

Janet Tait left some boxes for Amvets Thrift Store in her driveway for the charity to pick up. She says they were all clearly marked. Her surveillance video captured two people driving by in a silver car. The car backed up and parked in front of her home.

"My mouth dropped open and I couldn't really believe what I was seeing," Tait said.

One man stole all the boxes except for one filled with books.

"It's pretty obvious those are intended for veterans," Tait said. "And instead this gentleman and his friend decided that they would use them for their own profit."

Tait says the contents of the boxes were only worth a few hundred dollars, but she hopes the surveillance video helps catch the thieves.

“So I guess some people just care more about what money they can make off of clothes and books than they do how to help people who need it," Tait said. "Just crazy.”
