SAN DIEGO - A shooting in a Chollas View-area neighborhood left a 17-year-old boy wounded Monday, authorities reported.

The boy was walking with a companion in the 4300 block of Tremont Street when a black Honda pulled up next to them at about 1:15 p.m., according to San Diego police.

Following a verbal exchange, one of the two male occupants of the car shot the teen in the buttocks. The assailant and his cohort then drove off to the north, Sgt. Tom Sullivan said.

The victim and his companion, meanwhile, ran away to the east. At 45th and Craigie streets, several blocks from the site of the shooting, they allegedly were seen putting a bag under a parked car before being picked up by the driver of another vehicle. Officers subsequently recovered the satchel, which contained a shotgun, the sergeant said.

The wounded teen was dropped off at Scripps Mercy Hospital in Hillcrest, where he underwent treatment for his non-life-threatening gunshot injury.
