Najid Ahadian said one of the reasons why he purchased his Serra Mesa home 10 years ago -  was because of its sweeping canyon views.

“We spent a lot of money to have a very nice view over here,” he said.

But recently, parts of the yard has been crumbling into Ruffin Canyon.

“Our backyard was extended near the flower over there and the rain washed out everything,” said Ahadian.

He said about 10 feet of brick came loose after heavy storms hit San Diego a few weeks ago. He estimates the costs to be upwards of $15,000. Ahadian said his family can’t afford that, and he’d like the city to help pay for the damages.

“It’s something that happened beyond our control," he said. "Beyond our ability to compensate."

The city said the upper slopes of the canyon are typically private property, which means the property owners are responsible for maintaining them. They said they won’t be evaluating Ahadian’s home because there aren’t city utilities running under the house.

Now, instead of enjoying those sweeping canyon views, Ahadian said he’s busy worrying more of his land will fall into Ruffin Canyon.

“It’s very dangerous," he siad. "And we have to be very cautious when we are close to the border."
