Two vigils to honor the victims of the nation's worst mass shooting that happened at a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida Sunday morning will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday.

One vigil will be held at the Pride Flag at the corner of University Avenue and Normal Street in San Diego.

The other vigil will be held in Oceanside at the North County LGBTQ Center at 510 N. Coast Highway. Organizers say the center will be open from 5 to 8 p.m.

In response to the shooting, Delores A. Jacobs, chief executive officer of The San Diego LGBT Community Center, said:

"We are simply devastated at the news of this horrific loss of life in Orlando. Unfortunately, our LGBT community is far too familiar with violence. This shooting – during LGBT Pride month – is now the deadliest mass shooting in United States history.

“Our hearts, thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their friends and families. This weekend, and over the coming days, our community around the country will hold vigils and other commemorations of support, solidarity and strength.”

On Monday, The San Diego LGBT community will hold a rally at The Center, 3909 Centre Street, beginning at 6 p.m. with a short program followed by a candlelit vigil stopping at the Hillcrest Pride Flag and ending at Rich's nightclub. Call (619) 692-2077 for more information.
