Freight and passenger train service between Los Angeles and San Diego will be suspended for a third consecutive weekend beginning Saturday due to planned construction work in areas along the line, according to the North County Transit District.

Track closures over the weekend will affect Amtrak Pacific Surfliner, NCTD Coaster, Metrolink and freight trains. Rail line closures also prompted service interruptions last weekend and Oct. 8 and 9.

Coaster passengers are advised to use the Breeze bus route 101 or Metropolitan Transit System connections. Those traveling between San Diego and Los Angeles are urged to make alternate travel arrangements via Greyhound or another carrier.

Metrolink will run buses from Oceanside into Orange County, but passengers are warned to expect delays, officials said.

Regular passenger train service will resume in time for the morning commute on Monday, according to transit officials.

Among the construction projects affecting rail transit were track work in Oceanside, soil tests and utility work in Solana Beach and Del Mar, work on bridge foundations for the Los Penasquitos Lagoon Bridges Replacement Project and storm drain improvements in San Diego, according to transit officials.
