OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KGTV) - A man in Oceanside accidentally fired his handgun while cleaning it in his apartment.
Oceanside police spokesman Tom Bussey stated the gun owner called 911 just before 11 p.m. Tuesday to report the shooting at the apartment complex at 1320 Bush Street.
The woman from Huntington Beach was house sitting at her daughter's apartment when the gunshot came through the ceiling and struck her in the leg while sitting on a couch watching television.

When officers arrived on the scene, they found the gun owner administrating first aid to the victim, who was critically wounded, unconscious, and barely breathing.

Fire units and paramedics took her to an ambulance and rushed to a nearby trauma center where she was admitted to the critical care unit.

This shooting is under investigation and it is believed to have been accidental; the shooter has not been taken into custody.
