OCEANSIDE, Calif. -- A 24-year-old active duty Marine was killed early Friday in a motorcycle crash in Oceanside, just south of Camp Pendleton.

The rider, whose name was not immediately available, lost control of his 2013 Triumph motorcycle and struck a curb on northbound North Coast Highway near Monterey Drive shortly before 2 a.m., Oceanside police Sgt. Rick Davis said. He was ejected from the motorcycle and died at the scene from blunt force head trauma.

Davis said it was unclear whether alcohol was a factor in the crash, although speed may have been.

Anyone with additional information on the crash was asked to call a member of the police department's Major Accident Investigation Team at (760) 435-4431.
