SAN MARCOS -- Sheriff's deputies are looking for a man suspected of groping an 8-year-old girl at a San Marcos laundromat last week.

The suspect had picked the girl up to help her wash her hands at the laundry business on South Rancho Santa Fe Road near South Santa Fe Avenue sometime between 7 and 8 p.m. June 21, but allegedly groped her over her clothing as he sat her back down, sheriff's Lt Dan Brislin said. The victim's mother was about 20 feet away at the time.

Brislin said the suspect fled before the girl could tell her mother what had happened. However, surveillance video and interviews with the victim assisted investigators.

The suspect was described as Hispanic, 30 to 50 years old, about 5-foot-7 and 160 pounds, with short grayish black hair. He was wearing a gray shirt and denim pants at the time.

Authorities asked anyone with additional information on the suspect or a similar incident to call the sheriff's department Child Abuse Unit at 858-974-2415. Anonymous tips can be submitted by calling Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
