SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A man was shot outside of a Bay Park 7-Eleven store after police said he accused another man of checking out his girlfriend.

The incident happened just before 11:45 p.m. Monday in the 3000 block of Clairemont Drive, according to San Diego police.

Police said the suspected shooter was in front of the store charging his phone when the 18-year-old victim and his girlfriend walked to the door.

After the victim's girlfriend entered the store, an argument ensues when the victim accuses the man of checking out his girlfriend.

Police said the suspected shooter tells the victim to go behind the store to "settle" the matter, but the victim and his girlfriend eventually walk away.

However, police said the man confronts the couple in the parking lot, and during an argument, the man pulls out a handgun and shoots the victim once in the chest.

The suspected shooter fled the scene on Clairemont Drive, but officers -- with the help of the ABLE helicopter -- found the man near Cowley Way and arrested him.

The victim was taken to the hospital and is in serious but stable condition, according to police.

The victim's girlfriend was not injured.
