CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - A man was fatally hit by a pickup truck near a South Bay middle school Wednesday morning.

Chula Vista Police said the man was struck just after 6:30 a.m. in the 200 block of Palomar Street, just a block away from Castle Park Middle School. Officers and Chula Vista firefighters arrived to find him dead at the scene.

The man's identity is not yet known, though authorities said he is about 40-years-old.

Investigators said it appears the man was crossing Palomar St. mid-block, outside of the crosswalk. The driver of the pick-up truck remained at the scene and has been cooperative with officers.

That driver was not injured. CVPD said alcohol or drugs do not appear to be a factor in the crash.

Chula Vista Police Traffic Division is investigating the incident. Anyone with information on the crash is asked to call CVPD at 619-409-5833.
