SANTEE (CNS) - A man who allegedly shot a crossbow today at deputies investigating a fight at his Santee home, prompting them to return fire, was found dead inside the residence following a several-hour SWAT standoff.

The domestic dispute in the 9900 block of Woodglen Vista Drive was reported shortly after 2 p.m., according to sheriff's officials.

A woman involved in the disturbance left the residence unharmed, but a 31-year-old man holed up inside and refused repeated orders to exit and surrender, authorities said.

During the standoff, the man shot several arrows from a crossbow toward deputies, and they returned fire with their service guns, according to broadcast reports.

The special weapons and tactics personnel took up positions around the home while deputies tried to persuade the suspect to give himself up, officials said.

Shortly before 6 p.m., the SWAT team sent a camera-equipped robotic device into the residence, finding the man's body. His cause of death was not immediately clear.

No other injuries were reported.
