“We had to close it because the graffiti was increasing,” Haman said. “It was pretty vulgar with inappropriate images.”
The park is important to many families in the neighborhood, because there isn’t a lot of green space in the area. Gilliam Park was created in 2015 to address that issue. The park has not had any issues until now, Haman said.
“I think it’s sad that someone would actually do that to a place like that,” Logan Heights resident Elizabeth Gonzaba said.
“I think it’s really rotten,” another resident, Kathleen Kramer, said. “They should have more respect for the community.”
Jeremy Haman said they are trying to clean it up before next Friday night, when there is a planned community movie night at the park.
“It’s kind of a process,” Haman said. “When you get part of the graffiti, you’re taking off part of the wood with it so we have to reapply varnish to the wood.”
