CORONADO, Calif. (KGTV) - Hundreds of people have signed a petition voicing their support for Randy Burgess, a Coronado High water polo coach and teacher accused of sexual assault. He's coached in the community for over 30 years.

In May a former middle school student, who is now 18, filed a complaint with the school district, claiming Burgess sexually assaulted him.

The San Diego County District Attorney has not filed any criminal charges and supporters of Burgess believe he was falsely accused.

Burgess says he never coached his accuser.

"Never taught this person, never coached this person, never had any interaction as far as I know with this person," said Burgess.

Burgess says he only hopes he'll be able to teach again.

"It's been more than a way of making a living, it's been my life," said Burgess.

Supporters say the Coronado Unified School District has denied Burgess of due process and they plan to present their petition to the school board on Thursday afternoon.

10News reached out to the accuser's attorney several times but did not hear back.
