SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Crews made quick work of a brush fire that broke out in a canyon near a City Heights-area elementary school Tuesday morning.

Fire dispatchers say a fire erupted for unknown reasons shortly after 10 a.m. near John Marshall Elementary School, in the 3500 block of Altadena Avenue.

Dispatchers say students were briefly taken outside of the building as a precaution during the firefighting effort.

The blaze was knocked down less than 30 minutes later, and students were allowed to return to class shortly thereafter.

No injuries were reported and no structures were damaged.

Fire officials believe the fire was started discarded smoking materials.
