NATIONAL CITY, Calif. - California Highway Patrol officers discovered a man passed out behind the wheel of his car on a South Bay freeway off-ramp Monday morning.

Officers spotted the driver and his car shortly before 3 a.m. on the eastbound state Route 54 off-ramp to Highland Avenue.

Officers said the driver was asleep at the wheel and had his foot on the brake as the car remained in drive.

After knocking on the windows several times, officers eventually removed Jorge Zazueta from the vehicle.

Zazueta underwent a field sobriety test and was then arrested on suspicion of drunken driving.

Officers said they thought they heard a dog growling in the backseat of the car, but it was another man snoring.

That man, who officers said was also drunk, was taken to the CHP's drunk tank.

No injuries were reported in the incident.
