POWAY, Calif. (KGTV) – An illegal marijuana grow was discovered Sunday after a house fire on the 15000 block of Amso Street in Poway.

Firefighters were called out to the home before 4 a.m. Sunday.  They discovered the marijuana grow after putting out the fire. The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department recovered more than 100 marijuana plants that were in the three bedrooms of the house. The plants were various stages of growth.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Deputies say a couple and a one-year-old child were in the house.  They were not injured.

The Sheriff’s office says there were toxins, hazardous materials and exposed electrical wires within the child’s reach.

The man’s mother said she had two granddaughters. Only one was in the house at the time.

“The baby is in custody (of CPS),” she said. “The sister is…with a cousin.”

The couple is facing drug charges as well as child endangerment and child neglect charges.
