SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Neighbors say the coyote population in Carmel Valley is getting bolder.

Several residents have reported their pets missing and believe the coyotes are responsible.

One man has set up several cameras in his backyard to order to prove the creatures had been sneaking through a fence thought to be "coyote-proof."

“When I first mentioned they were coming through the bars - no one believed me," said Joel Dorfan.

His video shows the coyotes slinking between the 3 and 3/4 inch bars in his backyard fences to then eat from his fig tree.

Dorfan says the fruit isn't the problem, but that the coyotes could be losing their skittishness around humans.

“The concern now is that their scare factor may not be there anymore," said Dorfan, "taking dogs is one thing but people are wondering maybe their kids may be threatened.”

Dorfan says he and other neighbors are looking humane countermeasures to ward off the coyotes.
