An 18-year-old Campo man who was on his way to pick up his great-grandmother in Alpine in the early morning rain died in a single-vehicle crash in San Diego's East County near the La Posta Indian Reservation, the California Highway Patrol said Saturday.

James Robert Will was driving on westbound Interstate 8 in an Acura TSX on Friday morning when he lost control of the car, crashed into the La Posta Road bridge railing along the right shoulder, spun into the center median and launched down an embankment.

The car rolled several times as it careened down a hill, ejecting Will, who was not wearing a seatbelt. A CHP officer found the wreckage at about 1 p.m. Friday after the driver's family had reported him missing. He was scheduled to pick up his great-grandmother at 6 a.m. He was reported missing to the Sheriff's Department and the CHP at 12:30 p.m.

No one else was in the car and there were no other injuries.
