Man struck, injured on SR-163 ramp in Hillcrest

Impact so hard, it knocked the victim out of his shoes

SAN DIEGO --  SAN DIEGO – A man was struck and injured after walking onto a State Route 163 onramp in San Diego’s Hillcrest neighborhood Thursday night. 

 
The collision occurred before 7:15 p.m. on the onramp from SR-163 north to Washington Street. A driver told California Highway Patrol that a man stepped right in front of his car and he was unable to stop in time. The victim was struck so hard his shoes flew off, CHP said. 
 
The victim was taken to nearby Scripps Mercy Hospital with several broken bones. At last report he was in critical condition. 
 
Alcohol and drugs were not a factor in the crash, CHP said. The driver was not expected to face charges.
