San Diego police are looking for a man who sexually assaulted a woman outside of her Rancho Penasquitos apartment.

Police said the incident happened Monday night at the Penasquitos Point Apartments on Rancho Penasquitos Blvd. According to police, the woman was getting out of her car when a man grabbed her and assaulted her.

"Unfortunately, I'm not surprised," said Courtney Smith, who works at a salon next to the apartment building.

Smith said she's noticed a lot of strange men in the area recently and that she doesn't feel safe.

She recalled an incident where a man targeted one of her coworkers: "We did have an incident with a man exposing himself to one of the stylists when she was here alone at night."

Police said the woman who was assaulted immediately told her husband, but when he went to look for the suspected attacker, he was nowhere to be found.

A spokesperson for the apartment building told 10News they don't have security but wouldn't comment on the attack.

Smith said when it comes to her security, she doesn't take any chances.

"I bring a Taser with me to work if I know I'm going to be here late," Smith said.

The suspected attacker is described as Hispanic, around six feet tall, 170 pounds with dark hair and brown eyes.

He was last seen wearing dark blue clothing and mittens, police said.
