A still-smoldering wildfire that blackened about 133 open acres south of Ramona and briefly threatened some back-country homes was caused by mowing equipment, authorities said Tuesday.

The so-called Feather Fire broke out early Monday afternoon off El Capitan Truck Trail, near Featherstone Canyon Road in the Barona area, according to Cal Fire.

Sheriff's deputies cleared residents out of Barona Mesa-area homes nearest the blaze as the flames spread over rugged, hilly terrain toward them. Authorities lifted the evacuation order about three hours later, as ground and aircraft crews gained the upper hand on the blaze.

No structural damage or injuries were reported.

Containment was listed at 90 percent Tuesday afternoon.
