LA MESA, Calif. -
A woman's purse was ripped from her arm at gunpoint on Sunday in the Grossmont Center Mall parking lot and three men sped off in a late model white four-door Nissan Sentra.
The woman was walking through a south parking lot near the Macy's store at 5500 Grossmont Center Drive about 12:45 p.m. when the suspects slowly pulled the car alongside her, according to a La Mesa police statement.
The front seat passenger reached out and grabbed her handbag, but she did not let go and a struggle ensued, police said. That man then pointed a black semi-automatic handgun at her and, fearing for her safety, she let go of the purse, police said.
The trio then sped away, police said.
The victim had minor pain and slight bruising to her left arm, but declined medical attention, police said.
Officers searched the surrounding areas, but were unable to find the suspects, police said.
Police described both the car's driver and backseat passenger as black men who were between 20 and 25 years old. The suspected purse-snatcher was described as a 20- to 25-year-old black man with cornrows who was wearing a black shirt.
Police asked anyone with any information to call them at (619) 667-1400, or to contact Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477 or online at sdcrimestoppers.com.
