Woman Killed In Santee Crash Identified

Authorities Monday released the name of a 53-year-old radiology technician killed in a weekend crash at the same intersection where a California Highway Patrol officer and three members of his family perished a month ago.

Pamela Sue Marabeas of Santee was fatally injured when the driver's side of her SUV was struck by a pickup truck traveling at a high rate of speed at Mission Gorge Road and state Route 125 around 6:30 a.m. Sunday, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office.

Marabeas, who was the sole occupant of her vehicle, died at the scene, the Medical Examiner's Office reported.

The driver of the pickup truck was rushed to a hospital in critical condition, San Diego County sheriff's Lt. Gary Steadman said.

On Aug. 28, CHP Officer Mark Saylor, his wife Cleofe, daughter Mahala and brother-in-law Chris Lastrella were killed in a fiery crash in the same area.

Investigators believe the accelerator of a Lexus sedan loaned to Saylor by an El Cajon dealership became stuck as the vehicle traveled downhill on northbound 125 and went more than 100 mph through the T-intersection at the foot of the Mission Gorge Road offramp, landing in the bed of the San Diego River.
