ESCONDIDO, Calif. (KGTV) - Police said they believe a burned-out SUV in which a woman’s body was found is linked to a nearby Escondido home where officers discovered a woman dead Thursday morning.

At around 4:15 a.m., firefighters responded to reports of a vehicle fire near Country Club Drive and Kauana Loa Drive. After dousing the flames, crews found a dead woman inside.

Sheriff’s homicide investigators were called to assist in the fire-death investigation, and investigators are trying to determine if the woman died inside the SUV or died somewhere else before the fire.

Susan Davis, a neighbor at a nearby home, said her surveillance camera captured a car leaving the area a couple of hours before the body was discovered.

“We have the Ring doorbell thing, and so it went off about 2:20 a.m. and again at 2:42 a.m., but it didn’t really show anything other than a car passing by the other direction,” said Davis.

Davis said all she heard were firetruck sirens at around 4:20 a.m.

Just before 7 a.m., Escondido police were called to a home in the 500 block of 11th Avenue, near Pine Street. Inside, responding officers found an unidentified woman dead. The cause of her death remains under investigation.

Two children asleep inside the house were taken into police custody. Their relationship -- if any -- to the deceased woman was unclear.

Police told 10News they received reports of loud arguing in the area prior to the body being found.

Investigators said they believe the two crime scenes are tied together based on the SUV being registered to the home on 11th Avenue. Investigators did not elaborate further.

There is no information available on possible suspects in either case.
