SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Four people broke into a Kearny Mesa optometry business early Wednesday morning and got away with $50,000 in designer glasses, police said.

San Diego police said the break-in occurred at around 4 a.m. at New Optix Optometry in the 4800 block of Convoy Street, near Raytheon Road.

Surveillance video shows four people wearing hoodies using tools, including a sledgehammer, to smash their way into the business and grab the merchandise.

Store owners said the group grabbed high-end brands such as Tom Ford, Gucci, Dior, Burberry and Ray-Ban and filled a pillowcase with the glasses.

Police have not determined if the burglary is linked to a break-in that occurred hours earlier at a Lenscrafters store in the 11100 block of Rancho Carmel Drive in the Carmel Mountain Ranch area.

In that burglary, a group smashed a window to enter the store and stole nearly an entire wall of eyeglass frames.
