SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - One person was hospitalized after a fire ripped through a business across from famed Belmont Park in Mission Beach.

The two-alarm fire was reported shortly before 7 a.m. at a structure in the 700 block of Venture Place, near Mission Boulevard.

Responding firefighters climbed the roof of the two-story building to douse the flames. Crews were able to knock down the fire just after 7:30 a.m.

Three ambulances were sent to the scene. One person was transported to the hospital with undisclosed injuries, according to fire officials.

A Dreyer’s Ice Cream shop and Kojack’s restaurant, both located on the first floor of the building, suffered water damage.

Officials said a structural engineer would be evaluating the damage to the building caused by the fire.

No cause has been determined yet, but fire officials say it started in a rooftop storage area.

The estimated damage to the structure is $500,000 and then $100,000 for the contents inside.

SDG&E crews were on the scene hours after the fire trying to restore power to the affected buildings.
