SAN YSIDRO, Calif. (KGTV) - A San Ysidro school is on lockdown due to a domestic violence incident, San Diego Police reported Thursday.
The lockdown started about 12:30 p.m. at 100 Mount Carmel Drive, near Our Lady of Mount Carmel school, said police. The school is located in a residential area west of I-805.
Police said a domestic violence suspect had threatened his wife with a straight-edged razor. When officers arrived to question him, he was alone inside the house. The unidentified man's wife left the home unharmed, police said.
A San Diego Police Department primary response team -- a special- operations squad smaller in scope than a SWAT contingent -- was called in to take up positions outside the home.
The school activated safety measures as a precaution. At the time of the lockdown, the children were in a transitional period for lunch.
Our Lady of Mount Carmel, a private Catholic school, educates children from kindergarten through 8th grade.
