SAN DIEGO, Calif (KGTV) -- An email sent out to all San Diego Police officers in the department is creating some concern within the rank and file.

According to an officer in the department, Chief David Nisleit sent the officers an email this week with a link to a video. In the video, the chief told officers he's downsizing several special units to help with patrol needs.

The units affected are gang suppression teams, crime suppression teams, community relations officers at each division and traffic/motors.

The officer tells 10News Chief Nisleit told officers that the crime suppression team is going back to full-time patrol and the other units mentioned will work one to two days on patrol instead of with their specialized unit.

10News caught up with Chief Nisleit at a San Diego Police Foundation gala on Saturday. The chief said the staffing changes were in the works for quite some time and that the changes are necessary because of staffing needs in the department.

The Chief let his officers know that the staffing changes will be reevaluated in four months.
