UPDATE: Three southbound lanes on S. Twin Oaks Valley Road are open and one northbound lanes is open, the Vallecitos Water District spokeswoman told 10News on Friday.

The pipe that burst was built in the 1950s and broke because it was corroded, according to the same spokeswoman. All of the district’s customers have water.

The spokeswoman told 10News that workers will start repaving the road on Saturday and all lanes of S. Twin Oaks Valley Road are expected to be open by Monday morning.

SAN MARCOS (KGTV) -- Crews are working to clean the mess created by a water main break in San Marcos Thursday. The break happened around 4 p.m. on S. Twin Oaks Valley Road, near Cal State San Marcos.

Water was shut off in the area around 5:30 p.m., affecting the surrounding businesses but not residents. It was restored around 6 p.m.

Crews told 10News a 14-inch steel pipe burst and they are working to fix it. In the meantime water is being delivered via a second pipe in the area.

Northbound lanes are closed on S. Twin Oaks Valley Road between Craven Road and E. Barham Drive. One southbound lane is also closed. These closures are expected to remain in effect through Friday afternoon.

At this time it is not clear what caused the break.
