BONSALL, Calif. (KGTV) - Thousands of San Diego County residents can finally turn the lights on after San Diego Gas and Electric restored power to areas impacted by high winds and the Lilac Fire.

An SDG&E spokeswoman said the utility shut off power to 12,000 customers as a precaution when Santa Ana winds swept through the county. The wildfire knocked out the power to another 7,000.

“We’re still in operation mode. We’re still in emergency mode,” said SDG&E’s Allison Torres.

Torres said 120 employees are in the North County replacing 43 destroyed wooden power poles with steel poles.

“Steel poles, not only are they fire resistant but they’re a little bit more wind resistant,” said Torres.

AT&T and Spectrum crews were also in the Bonsall area restoring service to customers.
