Man who called 911 to report injury arrested in stabbing death of his mother in Clairemont

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A man who called police to report being injured in an altercation in Clairemont was arrested in connection with the stabbing death of his 58-year-old mother inside a home.

San Diego police said they received a 911 call just after 7:15 p.m. Monday from 30-year-old Joseph Burks who reported that he was "injured in an assault involving a knife" at a home in the 4300 block of Mt. Putman Avenue.

Responding officers found the caller in front of the house and detained him. When officers entered the home to investigate, they found a woman unconscious on the floor "suffering from major trauma to her upper body."

The woman, identified as Angela Burks, was taken to the hospital, where she died from her injuries.

Joseph Burks was also taken to the hospital for treatment, and police confirmed he was arrested on suspicion of murder.

No other injuries were reported.
