Officers arrived at an apartment complex on Home Avenue to arrest a hit-and-run suspect. They said the driver, who is suspected of driving under the influence, plowed into two parked cars at around 2 a.m.

After a witness gave them a license plate number, officers tracked down a 21-year-old man at the complex.

When officers arrived, they said the man, who appeared to be drunk, became aggressive and started fighting with police.

During the arrest, police said, the man's 40-year-old mother also came out of the apartment and attacked one of the officers who was trying to restrain her son.

The officer sustained an injury to the shoulder and was taken to the hospital.

As of 6:30 a.m., 10News has learned that the officer has been released.

Police said both mother and son could be facing charges for battery of an officer.
