SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — One person was hospitalized after a shooting at a busy Kearny Mesa strip mall late Friday.

San Diego Police said the shooting happened in the 4600 block of Convoy Street at about 9:30 p.m. near the Min Sok Chon restaurant.

A 38-year-old man was with his friend when they arrived at the restaurant and began talking with other patrons, police said. During the conversation, an argument began and turned into a fight between the 38-year-old man and another patron.

The fight spilled out into the parking lot, according to police, where another male patron from the restaurant pulled out a semi-automatic handgun and fired four shots at the 38-year-old man.

The man was hit twice in the torso and twice in the lower body. He was transported to a nearby hospital and was in critical condition after undergoing surgery, police said.

The man who is suspected of shooting the victim and another man involved in the fight ran from the scene, heading southbound on Convoy St., according to SDPD. The suspect is described as an Asian male in his late 20s, standing about 5-foot 6-inches tall, with tall and thin to medium build. He was last seen wearing a black ski cap, black hooded sweatshirt, black sweatpants and back slippers.

SDPD gang detectives were investigating the shooting. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 619-531-2000 or 858-484-3154.
