Initial information provided to 10News indicated the injured child was a boy, but 10News reporter Bob Lawrence spoke to fair officials who confirmed the injured child was a teenage girl.

The girl was airlifted by Mercy Air to Rady Children's Hospital at around 1:40 p.m., an hour after the incident on the Techno Power ride at the fair.

County fair representative Linda Zweig told 10News that both the operator of the ride and the girl were injured after the ride stopped.

"The ride had ended and passengers were beginning to get off when it suddenly began to start up again," said Zweig.

As of Tuesday evening, there was no word on the condition of either of them. However, photos obtained by 10News seemed to indicate the girl suffered scrapes and bruises. The operator suffered undisclosed injuries in the incident.

From Sky10, the Techno Power ride -- a multi-armed spinning ride with three sets of two seats at the end of each arm that also spin -- was the only ride closed at the fair. Three staff members were seen standing guard in front of the attraction.

"It makes me not want to go on it again," said fair visitor Gina Belli.

While the fair employs its own inspectors, the ride will remain closed until state inspectors with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration arrive to do their own inspection, which could take up to 24 hours.

"We go above what the state requires us to do as far as the rides are concerned. They are inspected and tested each and every day before the gates open," said Zweig.
